Layered sofware architectures are the most common modern application architecture and the standard for most Java EE applications. Components in a layered architecture are organized into horizontal layers, each of which performs a specifc role in the application (i.e., presentation, business logic, persistence, database, etc.). In this session we'll explore the performance impact of trying to solve data intensive problems using layered software designs. We'll demonstrate the effect of technology dilution and discuss how the layered architecture impacts your ability to exploit database technology and achieve exceptional performance.
