Cloud-this; Cloud-that; Cloud blah blah blah. Are you one of those who think “this is the same old stuff we’ve been doing for years with a new name”? Well, you’re a little-bit right, but mostly you’re wrong! In this session you will learn that the cloud is in fact a combination of features enabling your organization to maximize its IT resources and while getting out of the data center business. Cloud provides a combination of on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service. Organizations use cloud Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (Saas) depending upon their need and their desire to manage the environment. Finally, choices must be made to use Public Cloud, Private Cloud, or a Hybrid Cloud. Attendees will understand the specifics of cloud architecture and how their organizations can leverage cloud to best advantage.

Extending Enterprise Applications (Sales Cloud, Service cloud, on-premises EBS) to mobile interfaces
Limited Capacity filling up

In this session, we will present a best practice architecture for a mobile based solution that will read data from enterprise software investment in cloud (like Oracle Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Document Cloud Service) and even on-premises ERP like Oracle eBusiness Suite (EBS). Though all these cloud services and EBS offer OOTB Mobile apps, enterprises need to build bespoke mobile application based on critical business needs. Building enterprise grade bespoke mobile apps pose a number of challenges. Implementing data retrieval in mobile application client code is incredibly complex because it needs to be shaped it in the required format within reasonable performance limits with all aspects of security handled appropriately. These requirements are addressed by mobile backend implemented in Mobile Cloud Service (MCS), resulting into a superior user experience that implies increased user adoption. Mobile Cloud Service (MCS) is the recommended platform for mobility implementation in an enterprise.  While MCS is the mobile backend, it could support diverse mobile client frameworks for mobile application development, Oracle Javascript Extension Toolkit (JET) being a suitable one. Integration Cloud Service (ICS) platform empowers MCS mobile backend with data synchronization capabilities with on-premises EBS.

Scenarios might include changing the calendar structure from Monthly to 4-4-5 or vice versa, changing the Calendar year from Calendar (Jan-Dec) to Fiscal year (Apr-Mar, Jul-Jun, Oct-Sep, etc.) or Vice versa, or close the year as of acquisition date and start the operations under the acquirer company as of certain  period/date, or change the calendar period's start or end dates, period names, or may need to add new adjustment periods which were not defined earlier.
Discussion will be around the different needs and the type of structural changes required for the Accounting Calendar already in use in Oracle EBS.

Docker in the Oracle Universe
Limited Capacity seats available

This presentation covers the possibly hottest topic in DevOps in since 2015: Docker.

Docker and Oracle seem like a marriage of fire and ice, or free and constantly changing open source versus licensed enterprise software.

Docker containers are open source, low overhead, can be started in milliseconds. Containerized applications can be run without changes on premise as well as in most public clouds such as AWS and GCE.

In this presentation we review the underlying fundamentals of Docker, the command-line interface, and explain typical usage patterns. Advanced Docker concepts such as Docker Compose, Docker Machine, Docker Swarm, and native Docker on Solaris, Windows or Mac OS are explained.

Then we look at the role of Docker in the Oracle ecosystem of products. We cover WebLogic 12c on Docker which is officially certified by Oracle since March 2015. Also the Oracle Docker cloud service will be reviewed.

An earlier version of this presentation received a lot of positive feedback at the northern leg of OTN Latin America tour last year. This presentation also includes some demos!

Policy based cluster Management in 12c
Limited Capacity seats available

Oracle Clusterware 11g R2 introduced server pools as a means for specifying resource placement and administering server allocation and access. However,   all servers were considered to be equal in relation to processors, memory and other characteristics. This can lead to  sub-optimal performance of some applications if the servers  assigned to the server pools hosting those applications do not meet applications' requirements.

Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12c enhances the use of server pools by introducing server attributes e.g. memory, CPU_count etc. which can be associated with each server. Server pools can be configured so that their members belong to a category of servers, which share a particular set of attributes. Moreover,  administrators can maintain a library of policies and switch between them as required rather than manually reallocating servers to various server pools based on workload. This paper discusses in detail the new features of policy based cluster management in 12c.

Promising new features of Data Guard/ADG 12.2
Limited Capacity seats available

So far we are amazed with the Data Guard new features of 12c(12.1.0.x) and now the new 12c Release 2 taking to the next level with some amazing new features and lot of flexibility for the new features of 12cR1 with few more add-ons in 12cR2. In fact there are many new features in 12.1 but they are not fully operateable, for example Far Sync we can create complete manual methods in 12.1 but now from 12.2 we can create either by using EM or RMAN and creating standby database using DBCA, No logging support for DWH databases, No more overhead of password file synchornizaion and now if any changes of passwords in primary and they also get replicated on standby and now we can realize how beautiful the new features are! In terms of RAC primary and standby databases even though huge redo changes on primary still MRP we can start from standby and now no more worreis MRP can be started from multiple instnaces, thus how Oracle 12.2 Data Guard/Active Data Guard have promising new features.

Oracle Data Masking and subsetting in EBusiness Suite 12.2
Limited Capacity seats available

Ebusiness Suite cloning from prod to dev, test and other environments makes the production sensitive data visible to unauthorized users which not only makes misuse of sensitive data but also violates regulatory compliance. Masking of sensitive EBS data is inevitable to protect from data theft or from any other misuse. Due to data dependencies, scrambling E-Business Suite data is not a trivial task. The data needs to be scrubbed in such a way that allows the application to continue to function. Oracle has provided template for sensitive data discovery on ebs 12.2 which helps in masking and sensitive data through OEM 13C easily with minimum steps. Data masking templates for previous ebs versions are revamped to mask sensitive data in the ebs 12.2 editioning views.

Limited Capacity seats available

Today’s rapidly changing world of application development has made the adoption of HTTP/REST-style API calls the de-facto standard for accessing Microservices and Web Services from mobile and other applications. Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) allows us to expose our Oracle database tables, views, and stored PL/SQL as RESTful web services so that they may be accessed using industry-standard HTTP/REST-style API calls. In this session you will learn how to configure ORDS in Oracle 12c so that you may then work with ORDS in both Application Express (APEX) and SQL Developer allowing access to Oracle data via URL and standard API calls. In this session you will see how easy it is to make Oracle data and procedural code available to applications

Resolving Latch Contention - Part 1
Limited Capacity seats available

Your database is slow, almost to the point of non-responsive. The sessions are all waiting for latch contention. How do you diagnose and resolve the issue? In this session you will learn what latches and mutextes are and how they create problems. It will also present an example of a real issue encountered earlier and how it was resolved with actual code and output. At the end, attendees will be able to do their own troubleshooting with ease. All the concepts will be explained with live demos and scripts will be downloadable.

Value

Latch contention is a potentially serious detriment to the database performance but most users have little idea how to properly diagnose it. This session aims to assist the users with a proper understanding of latches and scripts to help in the troubleshooting. Finally, live demos will further cement the understanding.
